Description: What to Expect
We are looking for a skilled Fire Alarm Technician to join our team at GFTX Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of fire alarm systems, as well as other fire protection systems such as sprinklers and special hazards equipment. The technician will ensure that all systems are compliant with local codes, regulations, and company standards.
What You’ll Do
Installation: Install and configure fire alarm systems and components within the facility, ensuring they meet all safety and regulatory requirements
Perform routine inspections and maintenance of fire alarm systems, sprinklers, and special hazards equipment to ensure systems are operational and compliant
Diagnose issues and repair faulty fire alarm systems, sprinklers, or special hazard systems. Replace or repair components such as detectors, control panels, wiring, and other system parts
Provide recommendations and assist in upgrading fire alarm, sprinkler, and special hazards systems to meet evolving safety needs
Accurately complete service reports, inspection forms, and maintenance logs, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
Ensure all fire protection systems, including alarms, sprinklers, and special hazards, meet local, state, and national fire safety codes
Offer high-quality service to internal stakeholders and facility management teams, providing explanations of system performance and addressing concerns
What You’ll Bring
2 years of experience in fire alarm systems and fire protection maintenance
Fire Alarm Technician certification or equivalent, the ability to obtain certification within a set timeframe
Proficient in fire alarm system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, as well as knowledge of fire sprinkler systems and special hazard equipment
Familiarity with NFPA codes, local fire codes, and safety standards related to fire alarm, sprinkler, and special hazard systems
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies
Essential Physical Demands
Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
